I’m a serious home cook. When I lived in Paris, I worked translating at a French cooking school that attracted professional chefs who spoke no French but spoke English. I earned an intermediate certificate there — not enough to win a James Beard prize but certainly qualifying me to cook somebody’s dinner at home.
